The Bailey family met for Bill’s 75th birthday celebration. Some came from California, some from Oregon, but all met at the Portland Rose Garden for a family portrait session. Theirs is a great example of when matching outfits for a portrait session work beautifully.

Bride-to-be Angela, her mother Patti and grandmother Rose, spent the afternoon with me in my studio. All three had a brightness in their eyes and smiles to warm your heart. What amazing women. I am honored to have taken their portrait. I hope the wedding day is perfect.

Winter is a fabulous time for taking pictures. The sun is low, and on overcast days there is perfectly diffused light with incredible depth. While it is often cold, requiring subjects and photographer to bundle up, an outdoor session takes advantage of such flattering, exquisite light for seasonal family portrait photography.

Erika, Josh, Milo, Hilde and I had a fantastic time in Laurelhurst Park. It was one of those exceptionally beautiful fall days. Perfect temperatures and perfect company for their family portrait.

It’s always surprising how much Fall makes us feel like change, and new beginnings. This weekend we baked an apple pie and had friends over, after a summer of go-go-go. In Portland, the maples are all yellow now, and the nights are chilly. I think families change and regroup in Fall – ours always did. [...]
